Natchitoches, LA

Dec. 22 - Dec. 28, 2019

Sunday we had lunch at Poche's Market, Restaurant & Smokehouse. Mike Nicholson recommended it and it was really good.  They have a great market too. I really wanted to get a turducken but it would not fit in the freezer.  I got some boudin and gumbo though. We spent the day just goofing off.

Monday we moved to Natchitoches.  We are staying at the Nakatosh RV park just off I-49, no amenities but close to everything we want and great price. It was only a short drive so I had plenty of time to finish wrapping gifts and make a Walmart run.

Tuesday we joined Melvin and Terrie (my brother and his wife) for a party at one of their friends home.  What a great time, we had some great food, fun-n-games, and some refreshing beverages. We played dirty Santa, so funny.  Thanks again for letting us crash the party!

Wednesday, what a great Christmas.  We visited with Melvin and Terrie again.  My nephew and his wife were there, and our nephew-in-law brought my great nephew over, my niece unfortunately had to work. He is the only grandchild so he is making out like a bandit!  So fun to watch him at this age, he's 5. We joined their friends again for lunch.  We had a great time having lunch and visiting. We crashed at their house for the night.

Thursday we visited my niece for a while to get a tour of her new house.  She did a really nice job with her choices.  I'm gonna make her a pair of quilts for my grand-nephews twin beds. We got back to Natchitoches in time to have lunch and watch LA Tech play in the Independence Bowl. That gave me time for a nice nap.  We ended the day with a drive down by the river front and then stopped for a beer at the Cane River Brewing Company.  I enjoyed their raspberry lager. The lights here in Natchitoches are on par with those at Bellingrath Gardens.  They have stepped up their game since the last time we were here in 2006!  Elard didn't bring his camera so we didn't get photos.

Friday we enjoyed a couple of meat pies from Lasyone's Meat Pie Restaurant and kitchen, a crawfish pie and a meat pie.  It was really good, I wanted to order some more but Elard reminded me that fried foods no longer agree with me!  We strolled along Front Street and searched the shoppes for something that we couldn't live without. I found some tiny ceramic alligators that will join the dashboard collection.  We drove around to check out the area.  There is a really nice lake but the roads around it are not great.

Saturday we enjoyed lunch at Nicky's Mexican restaurant then I spent the day shopping.  I went to a great little quilt shop in Shreveport, Sew Chic on Line Avenue, to get sample swatches for my niece to choose from.  I found some good things there.  Next I went to Lowes in search of a couple of pins to work with my collapsible desk.  I've asked my brother to drill some holes thru the legs of my little desk so the legs will stop twisting. He graciously agreed to do that for me. It is a great little desk for the motorhome because it folds flat for storage when we are in motion (from Amazon of course).  I returned to Natchitoches and made a stop at the French Market Express convenience store.  Terrie had told me about it and they have some good choices.  They had some stuffed chickens, gumbo, Savoie's sausages, etc.  I grabbed some sausage and also found an old fashioned pecan log for Elard, and some Cane River Brewing Raspberry Lager.  Elard watched the LSU Oklahoma game and then we cooked dinner.
